Introduction to Screenwriting. John Ramaine(instructor)                                                   A practical application in structure and formula to the construct and execution of writing a screenplay.

 Participants will be stimulated to find their inner voice in expressing their art in pictures.  Also, we will discuss the separation between adaptations and original pieces, dialogue, action direction and character development.

John Ramaine’s Bio                                                                                                                   John was born in the city of San Francisco. After a stint in the Air Force, he moved to New York to pursue a theatrical career. He trained at the American Academy of the Dramatic Arts and The Neighborhood Playhouse. Starting out in musical theater he performed a national tour of Man of La Mancha, a regional tour of A Christmas Carol then Off-Broadway dramas The Prettiest Girl in Lafayette County and The Fall of the Ice Boy. After starring in the Off-Off-Broadway comedy, The Loft, John shifted gears towards film. He co-stared in the feature film, Stanley Cuba then starred in the western, Contrition, directed by Jason Begue, where he received a Best Actor nomination from VisionFest in Tribeca in 2010. Completed the civil war era drama Only Fear of Death, directed by Michael Infante, to be released in 2013. Also appeared in two national commercials, Ugly Betty, Law and Order; CI, and 30 Rock, in addition to being hired as a stunt-driver on Men in Black 3. John has also received several awards for his writing. He produced and wrote the short film, A Day in the Life, which received several awards from various film festivals. Also wrote and produced, Psychobabble and co-wrote the multi-award winning drama, I am Julia, both directed, David Capurso. John is also the co-writer on the feature film 79 Parts currently in production. Has completed several screenplays, The Fake, Sic Semper Tyrannus, Undertow, Ancient of Days, The Immortalist and The Perfect Nothing. He and has also realized the release of his long awaited novel, A Long Time Ago; a theme on lost dreams and the ability to regain sanity in Hollywood. It is available on Amazon. He also teaches an introductory screenwriting course at the non-profit FELT School in New York City. He currently resides in Brooklyn with his wife Julie. “I know in whom I have believed and am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him.”

Marisol Carrere (SAG-AFTRA, NYWIFT, HOLA) is the writer/producer of the short film “I am Julia…caught in the bully’s lair” (Golden Palm Award MIFF & Nominee QWFF). The film is based on personal experience, she wants to help raise consciousness against Bullying. She Graduated with Honors in Theatre Arts from Hunter College, studied Language and literature in France. Marisol has received various awards & nominations for Excellence in Acting including ACE & HOLA for bilingual performances of Oh!Yantay, which also toured in Peru, You Always Forget Something / Siempre se Olvida Algo, La Pequeña Cabaña, The Imaginary Invalid, Brief Conversations and Screaming in Silence, Oedipus Max (Oedipus of L. A. Seneca), Los Sueños del Coquí and Shadow Theatre with Puto Wijiwa. In addition Marisol has various major TV credits for Commercial Work, Industrials, Public Service Announcements and was featured in NY1, Telemundo & Univision News. Films include Conscientious Objector, BQE and Dreamers among others. She is currently working on pre-production for her next film which tackles other troubling social issues.
